Rise of the Fallen

Information is Key

Fenn tasked the party with finding an information broker that goes by the name Gunn. While detailing the mission, Fenn’s lackeys branded the members of the party with his mark.

After some heated debate, the party made their way to the book district. Noctis noticed the party had a trail. Alijah circled around and verified these were Fenn’s men, keeping an eye on them.

As soon as he got the chance, he struck out. The party joined in the fray. During the battle, Eluvita was struck with a shuriken from an assassin, which Noctis and Vorine attempted to chase down.

The bulk of the party dealt with the thugs below while Vorine and Noctis attempted to capture the assassin. They had him cornered, but he slipped away from them. Noctis believes this assassin to be none other than Lann, the assassin who swore to take care of Noctis and Eluvita.

After regrouping, the party made their way to Flagg’s books. Flagg seemed very non-committal to the party. He denied knowing Gunn until the party convinced him they wanted to find her before Fennis. They were hoping to keep her out of trouble.

Flagg gave them a location and told them to meet Gunn there tonight. They perused the store since they had time to spare. Eluvita found an interesting book containing information about the previous goddess of nature, Xinesi. Vorine also found a rare tome containing information about the nation of Cavazel, which is now known as the Ruinscape.

They made their way to the warehouse Flagg directed them to, but heard a scream. They investigated to find nightmarish creatures attacking what appeared to be their quarry. They fought bravely and drove off the beasts. Now Gunn looks at them in awe, wondering who they are and how they have come to possess such power.

A Heavenly Touch?

The party begins to clean up in the bloody aftermath of their struggle with the Reconciliators when a form darkens the doorway. This figure wears a white mask carved into the likeness of, or maybe it truly is, a skull. He wears no shirt, but a cloak protects him from the rain. There are runes on his cloak which Korric identifies as religious rites for burial, and spells to lure souls in so they may be guided to rest. Around him swirls a gray mist, that when studied closely, slightly resembles humanoid forms. He doesn’t speak much, but surveys the scene.

Eluvita tries to coax information out of him, but she doesn’t get much but a few short sentences. He explains that death is always waiting, it comes to all, and various other axioms. When asked why he is there, he says he was called here for one who should have died, but didn’t. He points at Eluvita as he says it.

He surveys the room further. He looks up and the same gray mist that swirls around this man starts to emanate from the dead bodies. Another tendril makes its way in from the alley. The various mists coalesce and join in with the rest swirling around this man’s form. You can gather that this man is a reaper of souls, Death himself.

As the party finishes cleaning up, they make plans to leave the Fat Seraph. Death interrupts the party by saying they must leave, now. He says Death approaches swiftly. The party dashes out into the rain and makes their way to the slave district.

Noctis knows a man named Fenn, the so-called “Lord” of Lower Corso. He claims Fenn can offer them refuge from the rain and chase from the Reconciliators. As they close in on Fenn’s location, they hear an ear piercing roar from the direction they came from.

Helveitios, their newly acquired god of death, announces the Hellmaw has arrived. The party dashes to Fenn’s hideout and convince the thugs to allow them to see Fenn. The Hellmaw leaves a path of destruction through lower Corso on its way to the slave quarter, where the party is located, and the thugs rush into the building, almost locking the party outside. With some quick thinking by Eluvita and fast reactions by Korric, the party manages to squeeze their way inside.

It appeared Fenn was busy, so the party made its way to a set of stairs on the opposite side of the room leading downward, and hopefully further from the Hellmaw. Fenn catches sight of the party, however, and gives them chase to the caves below.

Upon reaching the caves, the party waits for Fenn. After much convincing and truths revealed, the party comes to an agreement with him. They will be his troubleshooters in exchange for a room and protection from the Reconciliators.

Fenn gives them their first target, a woman named Gunn. She is, apparently, an information broker. He would not give them the specifics, he just needed her brought to him. The party rested overnight in the sea caves below Fenn’s hideout.

It was here, Noctis decided to reveal some of his secrets to the party. He revealed the role he played within his guild, and who his target was; Eluvita. Bonds shattered and were reforged. Tentative friendships were made and the backgrounds from all the characters came to light.

A plan was formed to find this Gunn and discover what secrets she has regarding Korric’s scroll and the reason Fenn wants her, before turning her over. What secrets does she hold? Will the party turn her over to Fenn, or will she prove to be an ally?

Just a note: This was an incredibly rich role playing session. I felt like a bystander watching as events unfolded before my eyes. The characters revealed their backgrounds and forged bonds. It was one of the most AWESOME sessions I’ve been lucky to be a party of. Thanks, fellas!

The Awakening

Noctis and Eluvita make their way through the Central Marketplace in search of a person or item to help jog their memories. The red torchlight that illuminates the majority of Corso gives way to the golden hued light from the lanterns that light the Marketplace.

The marketplace seems much busier than normal and people seem eager to be out and about. Is there a festival of some sort? The PC’s haven’t heard anything about it in their short time in Corso.

Korrick finds himself in front of a stall talking to a proprietor of old tomes and scrolls in search of his lost relic. The man seemed reluctant to talk about this particular scroll. After some convincing, he told Korrick there was an extravagantly dressed man who sold him the scroll before heading toward the Tower of Reconciliation. A person, whom he refers to as Gunn, bought the scroll for an extravagant price.

Vorine, recognizing Korrick, makes his way to the stall. After exchanging stories of what happened after their separation, Korrick tells Vorine about the scroll. Vorine tells Korrick that he’s heard of Gunn. She often roams the Book District, buying old tomes and scrolls.

The doors to the Tower slam open and a group of knights and a robed figure make their way toward the Central Marketplace.

Eluvita and Noctis start to leave when they spot others with a nimbus above their head. Vorine and Korrick stop to watch the procession, completely unaware of who and what the Reconciliators are. The procession stops in the middle of the Marketplace and the knight bows his head.

He looks up suddenly, drawing his sword and calling out to the fledgling gods. Noctis creates a distraction for Eluvita to run while Vorine and Korrick start to hurry away from the Marketplace.

Noctis manages to duck away after his ruse only to be caught by Alijah. After a brief exchange in which Alijah tells Noctis he knows him, Noctis uses the shadows to cloud Alijah’s memory and escape. Alijah, confused, heads back to the tower with the rest of the Knights and the bibliomancer.

Eluvita and Korrick manage to lose the Knight, but Vorine is caught at the bridge leading to the western half of Corso. After some quick thinking, Vorine calls upon the lightning to carry him to the other side of the river.

Alijah tells the bibliomancer, Corric, he has been ensorcelled. Corric helps Alijah overcome the ability that clouds his mind. He remembers the group of would be gods. He had been keeping tabs on them and decided to confront them at the Inn.

The two groups reunite at the Fat Seraph, owned by Harl. He owes Noctis a favor and looks out for him. While the group discusses the meaning of the Knight’s accusations and what their options are, Alijah makes his way to the Seraph. Unbeknownst to him, he has a tail.

Alijah asks the bartender about someone that may have been staying here. The bartender drugs Alijah and gets the rest of the party. They question Alijah and find out that he wants to join them as he believes he may be becoming one of them.
As he makes this revelation, they all hear the door crash open in the common room. There are footsteps just outside the kitchen as well.

A fight with the same group of Reconciliators ensues. The party manages to take out most of them, but keeps one of the Knights alive. He doesn’t offer much useful information and is killed by Eluvita.

It was quite an action packed session! What will they do with Alijah? What is their plan of action at this point? Find out in our next episode: “A Heavenly Touch?”
